North Carolina Head Coach Sylvia Hatchell
On Candace Sutton:
I thought she had a great game. She got in foul trouble and we had to take her out, but she was 5-6 from the floor, 2-4 from the foul line and had 12 points. She's really playing well.
On the game:
Overall, rebounding was the difference. Of course the big rebound at the end was major, but overall Maryland outrebounded us 39-34, so I thought that was the biggest difference in the game.
On the Maryland defense:
They made a commitment to play a 3-2 zone all the time. They won at NC State with that and basically they're saying, "You're going to beat me with the outside shot." I thought we had a lot of good open outside shots. A team that's going to make the 3's will beat them and they'll have to change and play man-to-man, but they committed to playing a 3-2 zone and they did a nice job with it. We were 5-21 from the outside. If we had made a couple more 3's it would have been a different thing.
Maryland Head Coach Chris Weller
On the first half:
We had far too many turnovers and they weren't necessarily forced, they were kind of rushing turnovers, so we were going to concentrate on that and do a better job on the boards. We had to get on the boards and that's why we subbed in the first half, to get a little aggressive inside. We won the game in the paint.
On Maryland's goals going into today's game:
There were very few fast break points. That's what we wanted, we wanted to win the game in the paint and keep the fast break points to a minimum. We wanted to go to the line more than they did because they always go to the line. They went to the line 40 times the last time we played them. We hit our goals, that all you can ask.
On Maryland's Defense
We did very well. That defense has been working well and I'm sure people are going to start really concentrating on some stuff against it, but we're comfortable and it helps us when we're playing a really athletic team that penetrates a lot.
On March? Strickland and Renneika Razor:
I thought March? stepped up really big on many occasions and Renneika stepped up too. These guys did a really nice job.
On the team:
I think our team is playing as if we believe in ourselves. We don't think we're the best team in the country or anything like that, but we think we can play with anybody.
