COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Anesia Smith shot 7-of-14 with four 3-pointers on Sunday afternoon to lead all scorers with 20 points and lead No. 23 Maryland to an 82-51 women's basketball win over Loyola.

Smith, a freshman who led the Terps with 17 points in their season-opening win on Friday against Coppin State, came off the bench in her college second game to provide Maryland with a needed spark. The spark was immediate.

With Maryland (2-0) trailing 12-5 early the contest, Maryland coach Chris Weller brought Smith, Terri Daniels, and sophomores Crystal Washington and Kiki Wimbush off the bench. Smith's first bucket came on her first possession, with 14:01 left in the half. A 3-pointer followed at 12:54, and another at 11:26 to give Maryland a 13-12 lead.

Loyola (1-1) led for the last time at 14-13 before Smith dished to Washington for a layin and a 15-14 Terrapin advantage with 10:17 remaining in the half.

Called a "student of the game" by Weller in comments following the game, Smith played the rest of the half and by the intermission, the freshman boasted 15 points with two assists and two steals. Maryland led 43-30 as Smith made five of eight shots during the half, including three 3-pointers. Wimbush contributed three assists and three steals off the bench, and Washington totaled 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

The Terrapins coasted the rest of the way as Maryland put five players in double figures and led by at least 20 most of the second half. Senior forward Deedee Warley netted 13 points for the Terps while Renneika Razor and March? Strickland each added 10. All 12 of Washington's points came in the first half.

Maryland will take on Mississippi State in its next outing as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament, hosted by Iowa State, on Nov. 21.
