No. 1 Seed Maryland Tops No. 4 Seed Virginia, 7-6

ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 1 seed Maryland Terrapins stayed undefeated as they held off the No. 4 seed Virginia Cavaliers, 7-6 in the first women's lacrosse semifinal at the ACC Tournament at the Disney's Wide World of Sports. Two-time National Player of the Year Jen Adams (Brighton, South Australia) scored the game-winning goal off a pass from Meg McNamara (East Northport, N.Y.) with 9:24 left in regulation for the Terps' only goal of the second half. It also ended a 30-minute scoreless drought for Maryland (14-0).
For Adams, the nation's and ACC's leading scorer, the goal was her first against Virginia in 120:53, spanning three games dating back to last season's 8-6 Maryland win in the 2000 ACC semifinals.
Trailing 6-1 with just under five minutes left in the first half, Virginia (9-6) ripped off five goals in a row bridging both halves to tie the game at 6-6 with 9:55 left in regulation. The Aumiller sisters came up big as sophomore Lauren Aumiller (Baltimore, Md.) scored three times and senior Lacey Aumiller (Baltimore, Md.) had one goal and assisted Lauren's second goal in the 5-0 run.
Maryland jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a pair of goals by Quinn Carney (Flemington, N.J.) and one by Tori Wellington (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) with 16:40 left in the first half. Virginia ended Maryland's run as Lacey Aumiller (Baltimore, Md.) took a pass from Mills Hook (Lutherville, Md.) and beat Maryland's Alexis Venechanos (Yorktown, N.Y.) with 15:46 left in the first half.
The Terps quickly answered with back-to-back goals from McNamara and Courtney Hobbs (West Lakes, South Australia) in 34 seconds to build a 5-1 lead. Carney added her third of the game with 9:49 left in the first to make it 6-1. Virginia cut it to a three-goal lead on goals by Jamie Haas (Berwyn, Pa.) and Lauren Aumiller (Baltimore, Md.) late in the first half, making it 6-3 at halftime.
Maryland faces the winner of the second game which pits No. 2 seed Duke against No. 3 seed North Carolina. The ACC championship game will take place on Sunday at noon at the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet, Fox Sports South and Sunshine Network.
