ORLANDO -
Junior Tracy Ojeniyi (Sewell, N.J.) won the heptathlon and finished second in the shot put to
lead the Maryland women's track team to a sixth-place finish at the ACC Championships on Saturday.
North Carolina won the competition with a team total of 181 points. Next was Clemson with 167 points, followed by Florida State with 116. Maryland finished with 66 points.
Ojeniyi had winning marks of 4723 in the heptathlon and 47-5 1/4 in the shot put, earning all-conference honors in both events. Also faring well for the women's team was junior Thema Napier (Columbia, Md.), who finished third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 59.15 and sixth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.04, sophomore Toni Jefferson, who placed sixth in the 100 with a time 12.01, sophomore Tia Burley (Baltimore, Md.), who finished seventh in the 200 with a time 24.05, senior Kelly Crowley (Levittown, Pa.), who took eighth in the 1,500 with a mark of 4:38.20, and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, which each finished fourth with times of 45.87 and 3:42.13, respectively.
In men's action, Clemson finished first with a team total of 189 points. Second place went to Florida State with a score of 183, followed by Virginia with 108 points. Maryland finished ninth with a score of 12 points.
Juniors Dontae Bugg (Newport News, Va.) and Phillip Barrett (Upper Marlboro, Md.) led the men's team. Bugg finished sixth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.42 and Barrett took eighth in the same event with a time of 15.05. In addition, junior James Gondak (Doylestown, Pa.) finished ninth in the hammer throw competition with a mark of 164-3. Also, the 4x100 relay team placed fourth with a time of 41.48.
The Terps will be in action again this week, competing at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., on April 26-28.
