Washington Post -- Terps' Hill Puts On Good Show

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Shaun Hill threw for 127 yards on 13-for-23 passing to lead the White team to a 28-3 victory over the Red team Saturday as the Terrapin football team completed spring football practice in its annual spring game before a crowd of 5,000 at Byrd Stadium.
The game marked the return of first-year head coach Ralph Friedgen to Maryland, where he was a player in the 1960s and an assistant coach under Bobby Ross from 1982-86.
"I thought we got a lot out of tonight's scrimmage," said Friedgen. "It was the first time in a game situation for us, especially for some of our younger kids. I thought as the game progressed they did quite well."
While Friedgen was happy with the team's overall performance, he said there is room for improvement.
"We only had one delay of game, but we have to cut down on our penalties. I thought there were more positives than negatives, though. We had a great crowd and a lot of enthusiasm. I think it was a great afternoon for Terrapin football."
Senior wide receiver Guilian Gary caught six passes for 95 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown reception from Latrez Harrison, as the White team exploded for 21 points in the second quarter after falling behind on a Vedad Siljkovic 38-yard field goal.
Sophomore tailback Bruce Perry gave the White team the lead with 6:44 left in the first half on an 8-yard touchdown run. With time running out in the first half, Hill hooked up with redshirt freshman Steve Suter on a 21-yard touchdown pass.
"I thought Shaun rose to the top today," said Friedgen. "Other than the last interception, I thought he played very well. I saw him grow as a quarterback today in learning the offense."
Walk-on linebacker Andrew Henley's 48-yard interception return of a Harrison swing pass closed out the scoring early in the fourth quarter. Henley also intercepted a Chris Kelley pass and returned it 45 yards before being dragged down at the 13-yard line.
"Andrew has been having a great spring," said Friedgen. "I'm really considering him for a scholarship. I think he's going to help us on special teams. I think he deserves a lot of credit."
Harrison and Kelley saw action for both teams, with Harrison completing 10-of-16 for 165 yards. Kelley threw for 72 yards on 8-of-19 passing.
Strong safety Madieu Williams had five tackles and broke up two passes, while defensive lineman Landon Jones had six tackles as part of a strong defensive performance by the White team.
Perry ran for 60 yards on nine carries. Junior receiver Scooter Monroe caught six passes for 88 yards.
