COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Post-game comments from Maryland head coach Cindy Timchal and senior attack Jen Adams following Maryland's 23-9 first-round NCAA Tournament victory Thursday over Monmouth:
Maryland Coach Cindy Timchal:
On Monmouth: "They are a great team. They took advantage of their first NCAA Tournament bid. They played real tough, with courage."
On Jen Adams' record: "Wow. What can you say? This was excellent for Jen Adams, it's a real tribute to her commitment and courage, and all she has done for the program over the last four years."
On the tale of two halves: "It's a good thing there are two halves. I give Monmouth credit. Again, we came out in the second half and demonstrated Maryland lacrosse. It's all I could ask for."
On what she said to her team at halftime: "What we did was ask our players individually to step it up. I think [the players stepping up] made the difference. That's all we really asked."
On goalkeeping situation for the next round: "I'm not sure [who will start]. Both goalkeepers have stepped it up down the stretch. They are both in a situation to help us on Sunday."
On James Madison (next opponent): "They are a great team. I have a lot of respect for that program. It's a young team with great goalkeeping, and a lot of players from Maryland. It should make for an exciting matchup on Sunday. For JMU to go to Virginia and knock them off after being drubbed earlier in the season, it's a real tribute to them. Now they are in a place that earlier in the season they probably didn't think they would be in during the 2001 season."
Jen Adams:
On the record: "I don't like to focus on individual things, especially in big games. It's about the team. But [the record] is a real honor. And it's something I'd like to give back to all of the players that I have played with, the coaches I have played for, and the University of Maryland."
On whether she ever envisioned setting a record when she came to Maryland: "I just hoped I'd get on the field a few times."
