Juniors Ruth Kura (North Potomac, Md.) and Tracy Ojeniyi (Sewell, N.J.) each won two events on Saturday to lead the Maryland women's track at the Patriot Invitational, hosted by George Mason University.
The meet was the Terps' final competition before the postseason, which kicks off next weekend with the ECAC Championships (women) and IC4A Championships (men).
Kura won the discus with a throw of 138-0 and the hammer throw with a mark of 148-3 1/2. Ojeniyi took first in the shot put with a toss of 46-11 1/2 and the javelin with a throw of 120-5.
Junior Amber Stanley (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finished in the top five in five events. She finished second in the high jump and shot put, third in the javelin and 100 hurdles, and fifth in the long jump. In addition, senior Kelly Crowley (Levittown, Pa.) took second in the 1,500, and sophomore Heather Houston (Fort Washington, Md.) finished third in the 200 with a time of 25.64.
On the men's side, junior Phillip Barrett (Upper Marlboro, Md.) finished third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.74 to lead the Terps. In addition, sophomore John Collins (Clarksburg, Md.) took third in the discus with a mark of 125-5.
The Terps will be in action again next weekend at the Eastern Colleges Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships and the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur American Athletes (IC4A) Championships, which will both be held in Princeton, N.J.
