Women's Soccer Wins Three In Spring Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's soccer team recorded three victories against the east coast's top club teams in a home spring tournament held at Ludwig Field last Saturday. Maryland defeated the Stars of Mass, 2-0, the Bethesda Dragons, 2-1 and the HBC Fury from Long Island, 1-0.
"I thought we played very well," said head coach Shannon Higgins-Cirovski. "I was very pleased with how consistent our play was throughout the day. These were three of the top club teams in the east and I think we showed how well we can compete."
Katie Ludwig and Melissa Anderson scored for the Terps in the opening game, 2-0 win over the Stars of Mass from the Bay State.
That was followed by a 2-1 victory against the Bethesda Dragons in which the Terps got goals from Audra Poulin and Kimmy Francis. The lone goal allowed by the Terps came from a future Terp as Ali Andrezjewski scored for Bethesda with 30 seconds left in the game.
Maryland finished out the day with a 1-0 victory over the HBC Fury of Long Island as Ludwig scored her second goal of the day.
The Terps have a busy weekend scheduled as they head to Wake Forest for the ACC Spring Challenge at Spry Stadium. Six of the league's eight teams will compete in the event with the Terps taking on the host Demon Deacons in their first game of the day.
On Sunday, Maryland was face Texas A&M in a spring game at Ludwig Field. That game will kickoff at 11:30 a.m.
