Napier Qualifies For NCAA Championships

May 22, 2002
College Park, Md. - Senior Thema Napier (Columbia, Md.) will be the lone representative for the Terps at the NCAA Outdoor Championship meet to be held May 29 to June 1 in Baton Rouge, La., on the campus of Louisiana State University.
Napier is currently 12th in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles with an impressive time of 57.73.
She most recently took first place at the ECAC Championships in the event, establishing her career low time and the qualifying time which she currently holds.
This will be the second consecutive trip to the NCAA Outdoor championships for the school record holder in the 60, 100 and 400-meter hurdle events.
Napier took four victories in the 400-meter hurdles throughout the season and ran the fastest preliminary time at the ACC Championships.
She will look to become the first woman in the history of the program to earn All-American honors in the hurdle events.
