COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Scott McBrien threw for 300 yards and three
touchdowns while Chris Downs ran for two more scores as Maryland routed Eastern
Michigan 45-3 Saturday.
McBrien struggled in the Terrapins' first three games but had little trouble
against Eastern Michigan (1-3).
The left-hander completed 14 of 19 passes before leaving in the third
quarter with the Terrapins (2-2) ahead 38-0. He threw touchdown passes of 14,
19 and 91 yards.
McBrien completed 12 of 17 passes for 266 yards in the first half and the
Terrapins used a 21-point second quarter to take a 31-0 halftime lead.
Maryland converted on eight of 11 third downs and finished with 568 yards
and 27 first downs.
On the 91-yard touchdown, McBrien found Steve Suter wide open near the
Maryland bench. Suter scored on the second-longest passing play in school
history to give the Terrapins a 17-0 lead.
Suter continued his strong performance this season with a 58-yard return on
the opening kickoff that helped set up Nick Novak's 31-yard field goal.
Coming into the game, Suter ranked first and second in the Atlantic Coast
Conference in kickoff and punt returns, respectively.

Downs, who scored on an 8-yard touchdown run earlier, added a 2-yard score
in the second quarter and finished with 66 yards on 15 carries in a little more
than one half.
Latrez Harrison, Mario Merrills and Josh Allen scored their first college
touchdowns.
Merrills caught a 14-yard touchdown pass in the first half, and Harrison
grabbed a 19-yard scoring pass from McBrien on the first series of the second
half.
Allen scored on an 8-yard touchdown run. He led the Terrapins with 86 yards
rushing in his first appearance this season.
Eastern Michigan had 278 yards of total offense and threatened a few times
but only scored on Eric Klaban's 41-yard field goal in the third quarter.
