Head coach Brenda Frese
On Maryland's effort:
"I'm proud we hung in there in another difficult game and kept our poise and confidence down the wire to be able to finish this game. I thought Niagara played extremely agressive and had a lot of confidence. They came in here with a lot of enthusiasm."
On the team going away from its inside game during the first half:
"We talked about it at halftime. Those are the spurts when you see us go on runs, then I think we look up at the clock and lose our composure. We needed to get inside more than we did. It's a young team and everyday you need to get better at it and keep your focus."
On using five guards in the lineup:
"We wanted to go with five guards. We thought their size wouldn't give us any problems because they were undersized in the post. We knew in the end that they would have to foul us, and all five of our guards out there were going to be able to step up and hit the free throw."
Senior center Crystal Washington
On her performance:
"I was glad the guards got [the ball] into me. I tried my hardest to open up spots for our guards and take some pressure off the guards to take open shots. Sometimes it left me open for an easy layup."
Sophomore forward Chrissy Fisher
On Niagara's offensive strategy:
"They were constantly moving. To play that on defense, that has to be the most annoying thing, quite frankly. They moved very well without the ball. They cut and kept moving the entire time, which got them open shots."
