The following are excerpts from Terps' head coach Brenda Frese's postgame press conference. The Terrapins defeated UMES, 97-65, to win the Terrapin Classic Saturday.
On the team's play this weekend:
"We are a very good basketball team when we play unselfishly like we did this weekend. We can beat anyone when we step up and play together. It's a learning process and we've had our share of growing pains early, but we've learned valuable lessons. You can accomplish great things when you play together as a team."
On the team's growth so far this season:
"In the first two games of the season we felt as though we didn't have our focus and our confidence for 40 minutes. This weekend, we really brought it on the defensive end. Our defense translated into our offense."
On the team's unselfishness:
"This team is a lot of fun to watch when they make the extra pass to a teammate and when they find just as much pride in someone else's success. We're going to be a really strong basketball team if we can continue to do that throughout the course of the season."
"We are taking better shots. We're not having to create difficult shots for ourselves, we're taking our time and being patient."
