Head coach Brenda Frese
On first exhibition game:
"It's nice to be able to get that first exhibition game underneath our belts and get out the jitters...especially with a lot of new faces and being able to get them a lot of experience that we're going to have to count on."
On defense's performance:
"Defensively, we were very excited to be able to hold a team to 56 points. It's one of our goals this year with our defense and rebounding."
On team's efforts:
"I'm glad it was down to the wire, I saw a lot of good things from everyone who was out there, especially our young people who wanted to step up. I'm very excited about our overall play but we're going to keep getting better."
On freshman Shay Doron's performance:
"Shay is just a winner, she's a competitor in every sense of the word. She wants the ball in her hands, she wants to take big shots and she's going to keep getting better and better for us."
On playing freshmen down the wire:
"We talked about whether we wanted to sub and go with some experience or stay with the youth that was in there. With these exhibition games we wanted to give them that experience and confidence in there. We wanted to see how they'd react - we know how our returners are going to react after spending a year with them. We wanted to see how our new people would handle the situation and they did a tremendous job."
On this season's starting lineup:
"We're really not settled on anyone's position, one through five. I couldn't tell you what our starting lineup will be on Nov. 21. We're really using both our exhibition games to see when we jell the best in terms of chemistry and cohesiveness."
Freshman guard Shay Doron
On her play at the end of the game:
"I was just playing my game. I just let the game come to me and luckily it did today. We all played defense the last possession and kept them down to the last shot and Chrissy [Fisher] took the rebound. That's exactly what we wanted and talked about in the timeout."
Senior guard Vicki Brick
On freshmen's performances:
"I thought they did a great job for their first game. They played with a lot of energy and excitement and it's nice to have that youthfulness there."
