COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The second-ranked University of Maryland women's lacrosse team beat No. 19 Johns Hopkins University, 19-4, at Ludwig Field today. With the win, the Terrapins move to 13-1 (3-0 ACC) on the season while the Blue Jays fall to 6-3.

The win was the perfect ending to a dominant week for the Terps as they outscored their opponents by a combined score of 40-10. Maryland will now gear up for next week's ACC Tournament which will begin Friday in Charlottesville, Va.

It didn't take long for Maryland to show what kind of day it would be as it took the opening draw, senior Sonia Judd took a few steps, saw a streaking Kelly Coppedge and fed the junior for a goal just 19 seconds in. The Terps then ran off the game's next seven goals and 17:55 in the Terrapins were up 7-0.

Coppedge was the story of the day, scoring a career-high seven goals and besting her top single-game mark set just four days ago against William & Mary when she had six. She also excelled in corralling loose balls as she posted a team-high five draw controls in the game to go along with three ground balls.

As a team, Maryland outshot Hopkins 42-15, had 13 caused turnovers (compared to JHU's seven) and won 16 of 25 draw controls.

Joining Coppedge atop the stat column were Judd, who finished with five points on three goals and two assists. For the week, Judd and Coppedge combined for 23 goals and two assists. Sophomores Kristie Leggio and Acacia Walker each posted a goal and three assists while sophomore Annie Collins and freshman Delia Cox each posted hat tricks.

Senior goalkeeper Alexis Venechanos made a successful return from injury as she got the win, allowing four goals while making five saves. Sophomore Kirah Miles closed the game's final five minutes, coming up with two saves.

As mentioned previous, the Terps return to action next weekend in Charlottesville, Va., as the University of Virginia is hosting the ACC Tournament. The top-seeded Terrapins will take the field on Friday at 1:00 p.m. against No. 4 seed North Carolina with the winner taking on the victor of the Duke/Virginia game on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
