North Carolina head coach Sylvia Hatchell
On North Carolina's 72-59 road win over Maryland:
"Maryland gave us a real battle. Brenda [Frese] is doing a great job and they were tough in there. Any win on the road in the ACC is big, so we're happy for the win."
On North Carolina's energy throughout the game:
"For us, we hadn't played in eight days and I thought we were a little sluggish at times, especially to start the game and also to start the second half. We didn't have the intensity we needed but we stepped it up when we had to. What I like is that we had five players in double figures."
On what aspect stood out in Maryland's play:
"They've been scoring a lot of points. They've been beating people by outscoring people really, they've had some really high scoring games. To start the game with they were making all those outside shots and I thought 'They can't continue to do this,' but we tightened up on them a little bit and that made a difference. [Chrissy Fisher] and [Alli Spence] and a couple of the other ones started making the outside shots...most of their points were from the outside...They're a strong perimeter shooting team."
Maryland head coach Brenda Frese
On Maryland's performance:
"It comes down to rebounding in transition. We had an extremely difficult night tonight trying to do the little things. It's a really good measuring stick for us to see where we're at in conference play. Obviously Carolina is a great team, they've got a ton of athleticism and a tremendous amount of depth from the guards and the post position. We're disappointed, this one hurts because we know we're a better team than we were tonight but I definitely expect us to bounce back from this."
On the positive note Maryland will take from this game:
"I like the fact that we didn't give up all 40 minutes. We continued to try to get back into it. As poorly as we played in this game, we didn't give up. The effort was there and anytime you have effort like that you know you're going to be successful when you struggle on an off night like tonight. Once we can start putting little things together and playing a little bit smarter with our 40 minutes of effort that we bring to the table, good things will follow for us."
Freshman Kalika France:
On what Maryland will take out of this loss:
"We've got to rebound and get back in transition. They did the two things that they do well, and we didn't make a good effort in stopping them or slowing them down. It was clear as day in the scouting report and we didn't do the things we needed to do to come out with a win."
