COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Three Terrapins, led by freshman women's basketball player Crystal Langhorne, netted double-digit points to lead Maryland to an 88-79 win over UMMC Ekaterinburg on Sunday night at Comcast Center. Langhorne was one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 21 points to go with nine boards.

Sophomore Shay Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) added 19 points and classmate Kalika France (Forestville, Md./Bishop McNamara) had 13, rounding out the Terps' top three scorers. Junior Charmaine Carr (Accokeek, Md./Gwynn Park) tied for the team rebounding high with nine. Senior Anesia Smith dished out six assists, compared to one turnover.

Maryland never trailed in the game and jumped out to a 15-point lead in the first 10 minutes. Leading by as many as 18 in the first half, the Terps took a 47-31 lead at the break. Freshmen Ashleigh Newman (Shelbyville, Tenn./Shelbyville Central), Jade Perry (Central City, Ky./Muhlenberg North) and Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J.) accounted for seven points in a 15-4 run which gave the Terps a 25-10 lead with 10:40 remaining in the half.

Ekaterinburg came to within 10 points on two occasions in the first half, but could not get any closer as Maryland slowly rebuilt its lead. Langhorne had 13 of her 21 points in the first half and also added eight boards. Doron scored 11 in the period.

Langhorne netted the first basket of the second half as the Terps went on to take a commanding 74-37 lead. The 37-point margin was the biggest for Maryland. But the Terps' offense was quiet after that, going scoreless for almost four minutes until a Carr jumper ended the drought at 7:46, 76-52.

Ekaterinburg's shooting was hot in the latter part of the half as it began to chip away at the Maryland lead and eventually come to within nine points at the final buzzer.

The Terps shot 47.2 percent from the field and outrebounded the Russian squad, 41-34. Maryland also forced 24 turnovers but committed 19 of its own.

UMMC Ekaterinburg had four players in double figures. Lioubov Smorodina had a team high 19 and Irina Baraneko scored 18. Izia Castro Marques contributed 14 points and seven boards, while Ange Abromaite recorded 13 points and seven rebounds.
