Terps Rout Quinnipiac, 25-3

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Cindy Timchal, the winningest coach in women's lacrosse history, won her 300th career game as Maryland defeated Quinnipiac, 25-3, Thursday afternoon at the Lacrosse Complex. Timchal's record improved to 300-68.
"It's just a tribute to everyone that has been involved with the program," Timchal said of her 300th win. "We've had tremendous support from the University of Maryland and great players. It's the players that score the goals and get the victories for a coach -- I've never scored a goal. It's really something all of the Terrapin players we've had here can share and take pride in."
Senior Kelly Coppedge led the offensive onslaught with six goals and two assists for a career-high eight points. The Terps also got hat tricks from Jessica Dorney, Delia Cox and Jen Greenberg. Annie Collins also chipped in a game-high three assists for Maryland.
Maryland took an early 2-0 lead before Coppedge rattled off three straight goals. The Terps scored their first five goals in the first 12 minutes of action, and had a 10-0 lead at the 9:59 mark on a Krista Pellizzi's goal. Jaimee Motley and Meredith O'Brien tallied their first goals of the season (and of their careers) before another Coppedge goal as time expired in the first half and the Terrapin lead swelled to 14-0.
The Terps allowed just two shots in the first session, while taking 31. Maryland also forced 17 Quinnipiac turnovers and the Bobcats were just 5-15 in clears in the first half. The Terrapins maintained possession in the first half by winning 10 of 13 draw controls.
The second half was more of the same as Coppedge, Acacia Walker and Dorney scored in the first 10 minutes. After a Bobcat score by Jennifer Larson to make the score 17-1, Maryland scored three more times - one by Tess McLeod and two by Katie Doolittle. Quinnipiac countered with a pair of goals from Annie Paquette and Amy Willis, but Maryland went on to score the game's final five scores. Krysta Juris scored the first goal of her career, followed by three straight by Greenberg, and one by Emily Jaissle - the first in her career.
Maryland dominated every statistical category, taking 51 shots, scooping 37 ground balls, and winning 22 draw controls. Kirah Miles did not allow a goal in 35 minutes of work before giving way to Kate Capelle, who stopped two shots and gave up three goals. Maryland's 25 goals were the most since they tallied 26 against Temple in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament.
The Terps will be back in action tomorrow night as they travel to take on Brown at 7 p.m.
