COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland football team ran its annual Pro Day today in College Park, giving recent Terrapins the opportunity to display their speed, strength and agility in front of National Football League scouts. A total of 17 recently-departed Maryland players took part in the event.

The day started off at Noon in the weight room of Gossett Team House with players being weighed and measured before taking part in the bench press. Each player was asked to bench 225 pounds the maximum repititions possible. Of those who participated, defensive end Scott Smith led the way with 28 repititions while other notable efforts were put up by WR Latrez Harrison (20), OG Lamar Bryant (27), CB Curome Cox (19) and WR Jafar Williams (21).

Players who worked out at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis did not lift. At the combine, LB Leon Joe posted an amazing 30 reps while DT Randy Starks posted 27.

Action then moved to Cole Field House where players were tested in the vertical jump, standing broad jump, 40-yard dash and shuttles. Notable efforts included TB Bruce Perry's 40.5-inch vertical jump and 4.4 time in the 40 as well as strong 40 times by Cox (4.52), Joe (4.52), S Dennard Wilson (4.53) and S Madieu Williams (4.5).

After the group workouts commenced, players were asked to do individual workouts -- as Scott McBrien did in Byrd Stadium -- or just spent time talking with scouts.

The 2004 NFL Draft takes place in New York City on April 24 and 25 with rounds one through three going on the same day as Maryland's spring game (the 24th) and the ensuing four rounds taking place on Sunday the 25th.
