CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Kelly Coppedge scored five goals and Annie Collins chipped in a goal and four assists to lead No. 8 Maryland to a 14-4 victory over No. 18 Ohio State Sunday afternoon at Chapel Hill, N.C., at the ACC/ALC Challenge.

"We were sharp today, and we improved on things from Friday," head coach Cindy Timchal said. "Ohio State has good, tough players and we needed to come out with the intensity that we did on both ends of the field."

The Terps (8-2) have now rattled off six straight victories. All three of Maryland's wins this week were over ranked opponents (Dartmouth, Penn State and Ohio State).

The Terps dictated the action throughout the first half offensively and defensively, scoring the game's first six goals and not allowing a Buckeye score until the 1:05 mark in the first half. Coppedge scored the game's first goal at 27:45 on an assist from Collins, but the Terps didn't score again until 12 minutes later - again by Coppedge. Delia Cox and Jessica Dorney added scores before Coppedge found the back of the net again. A Cox goal at 4:30 in the first half swelled Maryland's lead to 6-0 before OSU finally netted a goal.

"We had a lot of shots in the first half and their goalie did a good job against us," Timchal said. "She stopped a lot of good chances for us."

Maryland started the second half right where it left off in the first half on unanswered goals from Dorney, Laura Warren in Coppedge within the first 10 minutes of second half action to put the game away. Jaimee Motley and Emily Jaissle tacked on late goals for the Terps in the runaway victory.

The Terps, playing without Molly Lambert, got outstanding defensive efforts from Tess McLeod (three caused turnovers and a team-high five ground balls) and Coppedge who caused four turnovers. Meg Sommar, who started in place of Lambert, Meg Mallon and Greta Sommers helped Ohio State commit more turnovers (20) than shots (17). Kirah Miles allowed just three goals before giving way to Kate Capelle in the final minute.

"This was a good win for us and a good experience this weekend. Someone's going to win an ACC championship on this field," Coppedge said, alluding to the ACC Tournament to be held in Chapel Hill.

Maryland will be back in action this Friday, April 2, against Denver at Ludwig Field. The Pioneers are coached by former Terp standout and assistant coach, Cathy Nelson Reese.
