WASHINGTON D.C. -
University of Maryland senior Kelly Coppedge has been named one of 20 nominees for the fourth annual Tewaaraton Trophy, the most coveted and prestigious award a varsity lacrosse player can receive and a symbol of excellence in college lacrosse. In early May, five players from this list will be named finalists.
Coppedge, one of the five finalists in 2003, has had another fine all-around season for the second-ranked Terps. She leads Maryland in goals, points, ground balls, caused turnovers, draw controls and game-winning goals, and is second on the team in assists. This season, she became just the 22nd player in Division I women's lacrosse history to score 200 goals. She is second all-time at Maryland in career goals with 202, third in points (279) and seventh in assists (77).
The Tewaaraton Trophy is awarded each year to the top male and female college varsity lacrosse player, as chosen by the selection committee. The trophy will be presented in Washington, DC, on June 3, 2004 at a banquet honoring the finalists and trophy winners. The ceremony will be held at the National Geographic Society Auditorium and broadcast by CSTV.
