Three Terps Taken on Day 2 to Bring NFL Draftee Total to Five

April 25, 2004
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland had three more players selected in the National Football League draft on Sunday, bringing the total of Terrapins' drafted in 2004 up to five. The total is the most Terps selected in any draft in 15 years.
On Day Two of the annual amateur draft, LB Leon Joe, TE Jeff Dugan and TB Bruce Perry were all tabbed by NFL teams. Joe was the 16th selection of the fourth round (112th overall) by the Chicago Bears, Dugan became the latest Terp to join former Maryland player Mike Tice in Minnesota as he was selected in the seventh round (18th in the round, 220th overall) and Perry was picked by his hometown Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh as well (41st in the round, 242nd overall).
On Saturday, S Madieu Williams (2nd round/Bengals) and DT Randy Starks (3rd round/Titans) were the first two Maryland players chosen.
The last time Maryland had five players selected in one draft was 1988, a year the draft was still 12 rounds. TE Ferrell Edmunds (3rd rd. to Miami) was ultimately the most successful Terrapin player of that class.
Notably, the last time the Terps had five players selected in the first seven rounds was 1984, a season that saw guard Ron Solt and QB Boomer Esiason make their way into the league.
