Women's Lax: Tess McLeod Q & A

April 9, 2004
Terps Today (TT): What's the most popular misconception about Australia?
Tess McLeod (TM): Some people don't realize how big Australia is. They think that you can get from one side to the other in a day's drive.
TT: How did you end up at Maryland?
TM: I come from the same club as (former Terps) Jen (Adams) and Sonia (Judd), and from the same area as Courtney Hobbs, so they knew about me. I played in the 1999 World Cup and Cathy Nelson saw me play out there. I think through the connections they had with Australia they keep tabs on players they are interested in, and I got an e-mail one day asking if I would be interested in coming over. So I thought, why not?
TT: What was the biggest adjustment?
TM: Getting used to the way lacrosse is here. It's so time consuming and intense - there's not a lot of downtime. Lacrosse back home is far more relaxed and social.
TT: How do you order your Chipotle burrito?
TM: Chicken burrito, no beans, cheese, sour cream, corn and the mild sauce.
TT: What's your favorite quote from Coach Timchal.
TM: "Run faster, Tess. You're running in reverse."
TT: What's your favorite thing to do in your free time?
TM: I took tennis class here, so I like playing tennis now. If I'm at home, it would be going to the beach.
TT: What's the last movie you saw at the theater?
TM: "The Passion." I'm glad I went to see it. It was pretty incredible.
TT: Which teammate do you admire most?
TM: I'll say Laura. I admire her a lot. I've never met anyone that works as hard as she does. She is so selfless, too. She'll make a terrific interception and pass it to a teammate and then congratulate her for being there. She's very selfless and upbeat and has gone through a lot to be here.
TT: What do you miss most about home?
TM: I really miss the beach and the beach life - the laid back, breezy, sunny, warm beach life.
TT: What reality show would you most like to be on?
TM: I like the one where they travel around in the bus doing challenges - Road Rules.
TT: If someone handed you $100 to spend on yourself, what would you do with it?
TM: I'd buy a bunch of CDs. I have a very limited supply right now - I left most of them at home and I haven't bought any since I've been over, and I've got a list of ones that I want.
TT: What's one thing that's always in your refrigerator?
TM: Yogurt.
TT: What are your plans when you are done here?
TM: Go home and go back to school. I started a degree before I came over and I have two years to go, so I'll go back and finish that. I'll be in education for upper-level high school with phys ed and environmental science.
