Quotes From Maryland-Temple NCAA Tournament Game

May 13, 2004
Maryland Head Coach Cindy Timchal
Opening remarks:
"I'm just so proud of this team to get to the next round, it's where we want to be. It's a nice solid score today and we'll be ready on Sunday for our next opponent."
"I expected us to play hard and well and let the rest take care of itself."
On the solid play from the bench:
"In practice we see some players steping up, and we wanted to play aggressively. When it seems like things weren't going our way, we wanted to see some combinations and think about the future in terms of playing the next round and yes, maybe rest our starters too at the same time so they are fresh for Sunday. We wanted everyone to go out there and play hard no matter who we send out.
On Jen Marmion's score:
"Jen's been great. She's one of our seniors and she doesn't get much playing time, so for her to come off the bench it gets the team excited too, and it was probably the best goal of the game."
Senior midfielder Kelly Coppedge
Thoughts on the game:
"It obviously went really well for us today. I think everyone connected on their passes and, with the heat, play as tough as we could and I think it showed on the scoreboard."
On the solid play of Temple goalie, Meg McLouth:
"I think she stepped up. She's a lefty, so that's a little unusual for a goalie. I think a few of our shots she was in the right place at the right time and we were shooting it right into her stick, which is a tribute to her to be there. We were having trouble at the beginning of the second half, but then we had a few people score goals and we were able to get on a run again."
On Jen Marmion's score:
"She definitely deserved it. She works so hard in practice every day, and some kids would get discouraged because they don't get as much playing time as others, but Jen never puts her head down and I think she really deserved that goal. She got in and she was a behind-the-back goal. It's phenomenal."
Junior midfielder Acacia Walker
Thoughts on the game:
"I think we just tried to take this game as we did every other game in the season: every minute of the game use it to get better and stronger to push us through the playoffs."
On the benefit of playing against a tough goalie:
"It only makes us stronger to have a good goalie in there and that prepares us for the few games coming up."
On all the different players scoring:
"We want everyone to score. It's good for the team; it keeps everyone happy to have people score that don't usually score. It will change their day and it will change our day to see them have a smile on their face at the end of the game. It's good.
