WASHINGTON, D.C. -
Maryland's Kelly Coppedge was named one of five finalists for the fourth annual Tewaaraton Award, given to the nation's top collegiate lacrosse player. The winner will be announced Thursday, June 3, at 8:00 p.m., following a dinner reception. CSTV will broadcast the trophy presentation.
Coppedge is arguably the most complete player in the nation. A prolific scorer, she is one of the nation's leaders in goals and points, and this season became just the 22nd player in Division I history to score 200 career goals. Coppedge, though, is also one of the first players back on defense causing 27 turnovers and picking up a team-high 60 ground balls. She is first on the team in six statistical categories: goals (64), points (87), shots (149), game-winning goals (5), draw controls (41) and ground balls (60); and is second on the team in two others: assists (23) and caused turnovers (27). She is a two-time All-American, a three-time All-ACC pick, and was the 2003 ACC Player of the Year and 2003 IWLCA Midfielder of the Year.
The other players up for the award are Virginia's Amy Appelt, James Madison's Gail Decker, Georgetown's Michi Ellers and Princeton's Theresa Sherry.
