Maryland Football Ticket Sales Top 30,000 for First Time

May 22, 2004
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland football fans who plan to wait until July or August to purchase their 2004 Maryland football tickets may find themselves with limited options.
The Terps have sold 3,000 new season tickets to date -- the fastest ever start to the season ticket sales campaign. Combined with the 27,333 season ticket holders from the 2003 season, the Terps have now surpassed 30,000 season ticket holders.
"This is a milestone that we're happy to reach," said head coach Ralph Friedgen. "Maryland football fans are starting to respond in the way we always hoped they would. There's still time, though, to sell out all the season tickets possible in Byrd Stadium, and that's where we want to get eventually."
ESPN.com recently ranked the Terps ninth in nation for 2004, following the completion of spring football practice.
Half of all new season ticket orders have been placed online at umterps.com. "Fans tell us that they really enjoy the convenience of online ticketing," said Greg Schiller, assistant athletics director for ticket operations. "Of course, our staff is still available to assist customers who prefer to place their order over the phone, by mail or in person."
Season ticket renewals continue to pour in to the Terrapin Ticket Office. Existing season ticket holders have until June 1st to renew their seats for the 2004 season.
Orders for single-game tickets are also up sharply over last year at this time. Terps fans have already placed more than 1,200 single-game ticket orders for Georgia Tech (Family Weekend), NC State (Homecoming) and Florida State. Single-game ticket orders will be filled in priority order beginning August 15th, after all season ticket orders have been satisfied.
"We're ahead of last year's pace in every category that we track," Schiller said.
Recently, College Football News indicated in its preview of the 2004 season that Maryland was "a monster that's on the verge of even bigger things." Maryland is one of five schools in the nation that has posted at least 10 wins in each of the last three seasons.
The Terps are 19-1 at home over the past three years. Maryland Football fans are encouraged to contact the Terrapin Ticket Office at www.umterps.com or 800-462-TERP to secure their seats in Byrd Stadium for 2004.
