Women's Soccer Adds Four More For '04

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's soccer head coach Shannon Higgins-Cirovski has announced the addition of four more players to the 2004 Terrapin roster for the fall bringing this year's recruiting class to nine newcomers. Sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Resnick (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River High School) is transferring to Maryland from the University of Colorado. Three more high school seniors will join the squad as well: midfielder/forward Kelly Dormandy (Wallingford, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall), midfielder Shelley McDuff (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill High School) and midfielder/defender Jacquie Shields (Woodbury, N.J./West Deptford High School).

"I'm happy with the depth we've added heading into the 2004 season," said Higgins-Cirovski. "We have filled needs at every position on the field. All of these players have potential for growth and can be contributors to our program in the future."

On Resnick, Higgins-Cirovski added, "We recruited Nikki as a senior, so we were familar with her talent. She is quick, has great hands and is an excellent communicator. She will compete with Anna Sheveland for the starting position in the fall."

This quartet joins previous signees: midfielder Nataly Arias (Alexandria, Va./Bishop O'Connell High School), defender/midfielder Stephanie "Stevie" Dunning (Carmel, Ind./Carmel High School), defender Lauren Gamble (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel High School), forward/midfielder Carissa Gilbert (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool High School) and forward Kelly Rozumalski (Middleburgh, N.Y./Middleburgh Central High School).

Kelly Dormandy
Midfielder/Forward * 5-5 * Wallingford, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall

Dormandy's Highlights: Three-year starter at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Conn. ... served as co-captain as a senior ... helped Choate to an undefeated 14-0-2 record as a senior in capturing the Founders League Championship and the Western New England crown ... member of the U-19 South Central program and played for U-19 Cheshire in 2004 ... earned varsity letters in 11 of 12 high school semesters in soccer, basketball and track and field ... led three Choate teams to Founders League title in her career ... also serves as co-captain of the track team ... honored with the school's top athletic award as a freshman, sophomore and junior.

Shelley McDuff
Midfielder * 5-2 * Ellicott City, Md./River Hill High School

McDuff's Highlights: Earned four varsity letters at River Hill High School in Clarksville, Maryland ... All-Maryland Second Team and Baltimore Sun All-Howard County First Team as a senior and junior ... served as team captain as a senior in leading the team to the regional and county championships ... helped River Hill to Class 3A State Championships and regional titles in 2001 and 2000 ... named to Washington Post First-Team All-County in 2001 ... played for the Bethesda Strikers U-17 in 2002-03 which won the Maryland State and Orange Classic Championships ... also competed on the track and field team ... an honors student, in the top five percent of her class, as part of the technology magnet program in the biotechnology cluster.

Nikki Resnick
Goalkeeper * 5-6 * Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River High School (Colorado)

As a freshman at Colorado (2003): Started three of the first seven games of the season for the University of Colorado ... posted a 0.82 in those three games, playing a total of 219 minutes, allowing two goals and making six saves ... started the season opener against defending national champion Portland (Aug. 29) and held the Pilots scoreless for 87 minutes ... started against Wyoming (Sept. 9), making two saves ... posted first career shutout with a save against San Jose State (Sept. 21).

Resnick's High School Highlights: Starred at Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, Fla. ... racked up numerous honors from freshman through junior seasons before being injured as a senior ... Sharks posted a 45-9-7 record during her career ... captured the 2000-03 city championships ... named team's defensive MVP as a junior in addition to being a first-team member of the All-South Florida Coaches Team... named Boca News First-Team as a sophomore and junior... as a sophomore, named South Florida Player of the Year by the Sun-Sentinel ... also earned All-State first-team honors and team MVP ... honored as Palm Beach Coast First-Team All-City, Boca News First-Team and FHSAA Second Team as a freshman in leading Sharks to a 19-1-1 record ... led team to the regional championship and Florida High School Athletic Association Final Four in 2000 ... in club action, served as captain of Team Boca since 1998 and helped guide the Blaze to seven straight state championship titles between 1997-2003 and eight in nine seasons ... captured the 2001 Region III ODP Championship, winning the title in Las Vegas.

Jacquie Shields
Midfielder/Defender * 5-8 * Woodbury, N.J./West Deptford High School

Shields' Highlights: Standout player at West Deptford High School in New Jersey ... two-time team captain ... an All-New Jersey selection as a junior and senior ... named first-team All-Conference as a sophomore, junior and senior as she led Gloucester County in goals in all three seasons ... honored as first-team All-South Jersey, first-team Courier-Post and All-Gloucester Country Times as a junior and senior ... named to Philadelphia Inquirer's All-South Jersey second team in 2002 and 2003 ... one of the top 20 players in New Jersey according to the New Jersey Girls Soccer Association ... served as captain of the South Jersey Senior All-Star Team and played for the New Jersey State All-Star Team ... Team MVP as a senior ... also a member of the track and field and basketball teams ... earned All-Conference in 4X400 relay and 400 meters.
