COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Ohio State Postgame Quotes vs. Maryland
Head Coach Jim Foster
On the victory over Maryland:
I said when we played the Minnesota game in the Big Ten Tournament that every time we played a game this year that we lost we learned something. And in that game (vs. Minnesota) at some point it became a rugby game. It was very, very physical and I didn't think we necessarily responded the way we needed to. And tonight in a very, very physical basketball game we did. We responded in a way that allowed us to win the game.
On advancing to the Sweet Sixteen:
Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves relative to this kind of situation, or going to a Sweet Sixteen. You come into a game and you're 29-4 and you've had a great season. Because you win this game I don't think it makes it that much greater or that much worse, it was just the next game in front of us. Everybody's giving these titles to these events, Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, Final Four. We just won a basketball game. We got a little bit better. We recovered from what was a very physical game against Minnesota and learned something from it. So in the process of growth, or process of growing, within the framework of the program it was a significant win because we learned a lesson and benefited from it.
Senior Guard Caity Matter
On what it means to advance to the Sweet Sixteen:
We finally got over the hump. We played a great team game and had to come in here and play on their home court and got a great win out of it.
On defense of Shay Doron:
Shay is a great player. She can score off the dribble, she can shoot the three and she can get to the basket. We just played great overall team defense and I think that is what won us the game. It was a great atmosphere to play in and we came out with the win.
Sophomore Guard Brandie Hoskins
On if she felt she could penetrate to the basket:
They were sagging in on Jessica and we've been practicing for this all year, cutting to the basket and making the extra pass. All I was doing was cutting and I just so happened to be open and my teammates were making good passes to me to get there.
On depth of offensive attack:
That is the good thing about us because we have players from one to thirteen that can come in off the bench and score. We moved the ball tonight and got the ball to the open person. We had a couple of players like Stephanie Blanton come in and knock down some key shots for us to make it easier to get the ball in the post. Everybody played real well tonight.
Sophomore Center Jessica Davenport
On rebounding in second half:
Our whole focus tonight was to keep a body on them. They are a great rebounding team, especially Crystal Langhorne, and our main focus was to try and keep them off the board.
