Competitive Cheer Places Third At Cheersport Nationals

Feb. 20, 2005
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland competitive cheer squad placed third at the Cheersport Nationals in Atlanta Georgia. They earned the highest score in choreography for their innovative Broadway themed routine. University of Georgia and UNC-Charlotte placed first and second respectively.
The team was plagued during this weekend's event by four missing team members and three others ailing from stomach viruses. This week the team worked to reconfigure the routine to account for the missing girls. Coach Lura Fleece called this weekend's competition a "wake-up call" for her team. The competition continues to increase as the season progresses and it will take hard work to beat other university squads.
The Terps will take the next three weeks to work on perfecting themselves for the UMBC Championships on Mar. 13.
