Maryland head coach Brian Pensky today released the women's soccer schedule for the 2005 season. The Terps, who advanced to the Sweet 16 in the 2004 NCAA Tournament, will go against 13 teams that competed in the NCAA championships, including 2004 national champion Notre Dame.

"This program has a tradition of playing one of the most difficult schedules in the country, and 2005 is no different," said Pensky. "In addition to our ACC competition, we play some of the best teams in both the Mid-Atlantic region and the entire nation. We look forward to this challenge; and as a competitor, this is simply what you want."

After preseason scrimmages at Richmond and West Virginia, the Terps open the 2005 season with a two-game home stand against Towson and Rhode Island the weekend of August 26-28.

Maryland then travels to South Bend for the Notre Dame Tournament with games against 2004 Big East champion Connnecticut and NCAA champion Notre Dame the weekend of September 2-4.

The Terrapins return to College Park to host the Maryland/adidas Classic on Thursday, September 8 and Sunday, September 11. Maryland will face two more Big East teams in the Classic when it takes on Villanova in the nightcap on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Rutgers on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. UC Santa Barbara completes the tournament field.

Other home matches for 2005 include ACC contests with Wake Forest, national powerhouse North Carolina, NC State, Virginia Tech and ACC newcomer Boston College. The conference road schedule includes match-ups at Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Duke and Virginia.

In addition to the opening home stand and the Notre Dame Tournament, the Terps' non-conference schedule also features a weekend set at Ludwig Field with Penn State on Friday, September 16 and a Sunday afternoon game vs. Yale on September 30.

The ACC Tournament will be held on November 2-6 in Cary, N.C., at the SAS Soccer Complex. The 2005 NCAA Tournament will begin on November 11 with the first three rounds being held at campus sites. The 2005 College Cup is being hosted by Texas A&M at the Aggie Soccer Complex. The semifinals are set for December 2, with the finals taking place on December 4.
