ATLANTIC CITY, NJ -- Maryland's competitive cheer squad beat out Staten Island Elite/Gemsation to win the 2004 Battle at the Boardwalk and claim its third straight title this season. The Terps placed first in their division and were the overall grand champions of the day.
"They are feeling very comfortable with the routine at this point and we will continue to make our routine more difficult in preparation for Nationals," head coach Lura Fleece said. "We had very high score in our dance section and skills sections."
On another positive note for the Terps, sophomore Lauren Spates was back into the routine, after she was sidelined for three competitions due to a shoulder injury.
"She got right back into the swing of things as one of our main flyers," Fleece said. "We are stronger with her addition."
Next, the Terps will travel to Harrisburg, Pa. for the 2004 Capital City Classic on Mar. 14.
