Competitive Cheer Aims To Fly High At The 2004 World Cup Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md -- Maryland's competitive cheer squad will take its routine on the road for the second straight weekend, as the Terps will compete in the 2004 World Cup Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 25 in Freehold, N.J. Coming off a top three finish at the 2004 Cheersport, Maryland is ready to dazzle judges and fans with another strong performance.

"We did well at Cheersport, but we have the potential to do a lot better," senior co-captain Jessica Walter said. "It's just the question of nerves for some of us. I am sure more competition experience will help with that.

The 10th Annual World Cup Invitational is a regional cheerleading competition hosted by World Cup Cheerleading, one of the premier cheerleading clubs on the East Coast. The Terps will one of 107 All-Star teams competing on Sunday and will part of the Open All-Stars Division.

Competition will take place in the main gym which is equipped with two 44' deep x 54' wide carpeted gymnastics floor mats. The stage is identical to one the Terps will see later at the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) Championships in April.

The Terps are scheduled to compete at 7:36 p.m. on Jan. 25.
