BALTIMORE, Md. -- Maryland's competitive cheerleading squad garnered first place at the 2004 UMBC New Year's Bash Championship, held on Feb. 2. The title is the first of season for the Terrapins, as well as the first in program history. In addition to winning their division, Maryland finished as the overall grand champion at the event.
The Terps beat out Salisbury University and Cheer Thunder Storm to claim the Collegiate Open/AllGirl division. Other divisions showcased competition among middle school and high school teams as well as All-Star clubs.
Maryland, whose Jan. 25th World Cup competition in Freehold, NJ was cancelled due to inclement weather, will take the floor again on Feb.7 at the American Masters Championship. The two-day competition will be held in Baltimore as well.
