Box Score
Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese
On first half play:
"I thought it was a tremendous first half, I thought we really did well getting out in our transition game. We've really been communicating and running the court and on the defensive end I thought we came out with a great amount of intensity."
On the team's unselfish play:
"What won us a championship last year was our unselfishness. I love their intensity; I've said all along that this team continues to stay grounded in what they are doing and stays hungry. The unselfishness is what separates us from the majority of teams out there."
On the importance of the BTI Classic:
"We're really treating it like the ACC [tournament] in terms of three games in three days, seeing how we are going to recover, how we are going to handle it. We know we are going to be placed in this situation again with the ACC tournament, so that's really how we are treating it."
Forward Laura Harper
On tonight's performance:
"Things were just falling tonight, I was just playing basketball. Coach has been telling me all week just to stop thinking so much and bounce back from plays. So I just came out and didn't really think about to much of anything."
Guard Shay Doron
On getting the win without a strong shooting performance:
"We are really working on defense. Obviously offense is our strong point, but we're going to have nights like this and we are going to have to make up for the shooting in other ways. We are finding other ways to do that and that's just going to make us better in the long run."
Texas Christian Head Coach Jeff Mittie
Comments on the first half:
"I think we got frustrated because we didn't play bad in the opening ten minutes. It was more that Maryland was that good. They came out really fast and hit some good shots. We were bad offensively the entire first half. I thought we got a little better as the game progressed. We were pretty soft in the middle and Maryland was very strong and physical. We didn't match their play."
On Micaela Younger:
"Younger did not play a lot last year. [Crystal] Langhorne is not the easiest opponent to start off with but you have to learn sometime. Micaela had a nice start to her season against a tough player."
On Maryland:
"I think they are excellent. They weren't as sharp as the game wore on. They know they have to play three games in three days. The telling stat for me is 27 assists and 31 field goals. This is a team that has great individual talent and plays outstanding team basketball. That is why they hung the banner earlier this year."
On defending Maryland:
"They have so many weapons offensively. You have to pick who you want to guard. If you double Langhorne, she's a good passer so that doesn't always work. [Laura] Harper is a fine scorer. I thought we had some decent double teams, but they did a good job of getting the ball out of there and made some three-point plays. They can afford to have Ashleigh Newman go 1 for 10 tonight and not play well and as a team still score some points."
