Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese

On the game:
"We got a lot of positives out of this game, and we have a lot of areas where we can see that we need to improve. We felt like we could have been more aggressive, but it was the first game and we were able to get a lot of jitters out. We threw out a lot of combinations and were able to spread minutes to give people a lot of experience today."

On limiting turnovers:
"I thought that we did a much better job of protecting the basketball, particularly in the first half. We were able to keep ourselves under 20 turnovers. We showed a lot of effort, and we played hard tonight."

On getting out to a fast start:
"It was really important. It was great to see the kind of energy that we started the game with. I'd like to see us be able to come out in the second half with that same energy, so that gives us something to strive for, because it's going to be important throughout the season."

On Christie Marrone:
"It was a goal going into the game to get her a lot of minutes and some experience out there. When Christie plays like she did tonight, there's a role for her. She has to keep stepping up and hitting the open shots to extend the defense. If she keeps playing like that, good things are going to happen."

On Marissa Coleman:
"Marissa played a lot of backup point guard for us last year, so the fact that she can give us a lot of minutes there is going to be huge. She's in tremendous shape, and the fact that she can go for 40 minutes allows us to be able to move her around with her versatility."

Maryland Player Quotes

Laura Harper

On today's game:
"It was nice being back on the court. We have been practicing a lot and it was fun to play against someone other than ourselves tonight. The game let us work on many of the plays we have run in practice."

On rebounding:
"As a post player, our team needs to improve on rebounding. We need to try and be more aggressive. We need to come into every game rebounding like we did in the first half."

Kristi Toliver

On today's game:
"We didn't play our best and our team has a lot to work on. There were a lot of things that went wrong that we, as a team, are capable of changing. It will be interesting to see our improvement from today's game in the season opener. Like coach said, we were able to get our jitters out and know we know where to improve as a team."
