Terps to Compete at Battle at the Capitol
March 18, 2006
Maryland Competitive Cheer heads to the Patriot Center Sunday to compete in the Battle at the Capitol competition. The Terps won this competition last year, leaving them in a strong position heading into NCA College Nationals.
This year, the Terps take on Wilmington College, Morgan State University and the club team from the University of Virginia. Head Coach Lura Fleece has high expectations thanks to a very strong practice Wednesday morning.
"We are ready to prove we are right on track and peaking at the best time," Coach Fleece said.
The Battle at the Capital marks the first competition of the season where the Terps will take the mat with only 20 women, the number required for nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla. They have been competing with 28 women up to this point.
Coach Fleece says "the changes have remotivated the team. Having to rearrange each section of the routine hasn't given us a chance to get overly comfortable. Everyone is still working hard and fighting for everything."
The Terps' division, College All-Girl, takes the mat at 7 p.m. at the Patriot Center. Next weekend they travel to Landover, Md. for the Coastal Championships.
