Quotes From Coach Friedgen's Spring Press Conference

April 26, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Head Coach Ralph Friedgen

On his overall opinion of spring practice:
"I think we've had a very successful spring practice and I think because of adversity, some kids have gotten some opportunities. I think it is one of the few times we have gotten most of the offense in. I don't think it is down pat but we will continue to work on it in the summer. I am very encouraged and excited about the season. I wish we had three more weeks of spring practice. I can't wait for the season to start."

On the quarterback situation:
"After two scrimmages, Sam Hollenbach has the lead but again we'll have to see how it comes out on Saturday. Sam and Jordan (Steffy) will be with the first team on Saturday and alternate reps against the first team defense."

On the progress of the wide receivers:
"Drew Weatherly has had an exceptional spring. He is playing the best football since he has been here. Everyone else is young but there is talent there."

On what the receivers need to do to improve:
"They need to learn how to come out of their cuts. They get stuck in their cuts and the ball is thrown on time and all of a sudden they are not there. We have to perfect the coordination between the quarterback and the receiver."

On the return of Josh Allen:
"I saw him run close to the same ability he had before his injury yesterday at practice. I am hoping he can come back and really help us and go the distance at running back."

On the competition at offensive tackle:
"There is a pretty good battle going on at offensive tackle. Scott Burley has had a really good spring and so has Dane Randolph. We have also been really pleased with Jared Gaither and Zach Marshall."
