No. 8 Virginia Ousts Maryland, 4-2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - In a match today at the Tennis Center at College Park, the Maryland Men's Tennis Team fell to the 8th-seeded Virginia Cavaliers, 4-2. Maryland is still hanging on to their winning record, 9-7, 1-6 in the ACC. Virginia improved their record to 17-5, with an undefeated 7-0 record in the ACC.
Boris Fetbroyt and Josh Brauser started for Maryland in the first doubles match of the day. Fetbroyt and Brauser fell to their opponents, 8-3. Nickolai Nielsen and Andreas Vaage-Nilsen played in the second doubles match, also falling 8-3.
The Cavaliers now had a 1-0 advantage over Maryland when the singles matches commenced. No. 106 Nielsen faced No. 91 Dough Stewart. Nielsen quickly grasped the first set, 6-3, and was ahead in the second, 2-1, when Stewart retired. The Terps had now evened the match score, 1-1.
Next to finish for the Terrapins was third singles Fetbroyt. Fetbroyt had some trouble in the first set, 6-1, but was able to come back to tie the second set 6-6. In the final point, Fetbroyt fell, finishing the set, 7-6. UVA now added another victory to their doubles match point.
Scott Fink, playing fourth for Maryland, was the third match to finish for the day. Fink was able to grasp the first set, 7-5, but fell in the second, 6-4. With the singles sets tied at 1-1, the third set fell in UVA's favor, 6-3. Vaage-Nilsen, second singles, also fell 6-2, 6-2 in his match against No. 53 Treat Huey.
John O'Rourke played sixth singles for Maryland and was the fifth match to finish for the day. O'Rourke barely grasped the first set 7-6 (1) but closely fell in the second, 6-4. Since the match was decided in Virginia's favor, O'Rourke played a super tiebreaker to decide the match. With the encouragement of his teammates, O'Rourke was able to capitalize on the tiebreaker, breezing past his opponent, 10-3, and adding the second victory for his team. This was O'Rourke first win in the singles set against ACC team.
Aaron Carr's match, playing fifth for the Terps, did not finish. Carr and his opponent, Nick Meythaler, were tied in the first set, 3-3.
