Baltimore, Md. -
Brenda Frese threw out the first pitch at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Friday night before the Orioles took on the Boston Red Sox. The National Champion women's basketball team was honored on the field and Coach Frese was presented with an Orioles jersey by the team's manager, Sam Perlozzo.
Frese, who threw a strike to Perlozzo, was joined on the field by her players and assistant coaches. The team formed a line in front of the pitcher's mound and was greeted by the Oriole Bird mascot while the coach threw out the first pitch.
Frese and the Terps received a loud ovation from the announced crowd of 37,063, which included a large number of Red Sox fans visiting from the site of the Final Four. Throughout the game, the Terps were approached by fans of both teams looking to congratulate them and colect an autograph from the champs.
The event continued a dizzying schedule following the Terps' 78-75 overtime victory over Duke in Tuesday night's championship game in Boston. Yesterday, the Terps were among twelve NCAA champion teams honored at the White House by President George W. Bush on Champions Day. At that event, during which sophomore Crystal Langhorne presented Bush with a personalized Terps jersey, the women's basketball team was joined by two other Terrapin championship teams, field hockey and men's soccer.
