College Park, Md. -
Maryland head coach Brian Pensky today released the women's soccer schedule for the 2006 season. The Terps will go against 10 teams that competed in the NCAA championships, including 2005 national runner-up UCLA.
"As always, we will play one of the toughest schedules in the country," said Pensky. "Our conference schedule alone puts us in such a category.
"We open the season with a tournament at Penn State where we play Tennessee and UCLA. Our players, as always, will welcome that challenge. And the remainder of our non-conference schedule consists of games against programs that get better and better every year."

After preseason scrimmages against Delaware and Richmond in College Park, the Terps open the 2006 season at the Penn State Classic against Tennesse, a 2005 NCAA tournament team, and NCAA finalist UCLA on the weekend of August 25-27.
Maryland then returns to College Park for its home opener at Ludwig Field on Friday, September 1 against Towson. That game will be the first half of a Maryland soccer doubleheader, as the Terrapin men's team hosts UCLA following the women's game vs. the Tigers. The Terps will then host UMBC on Sunday, September 3.
The Terrapins then hit the road again for its first-ever game at Dartmouth, which earned an NCAA bid last season with a 12-4-1 record. Maryland and the Big Green have met once before in 1997, a 2-1 overtime win for the Terps in College Park.
Next up for the Terps is a two-game home stand against Loyola, which has never defeated Maryland in nine previous meetings, and Stony Brook on September 12 and 15, respectively, before closing out the non-conference portion of the schedule at George Mason on September 21.
The Atlantic Coast Conference schedule gets under way on Thursday, September 21, when the Terps host Clemson at Ludwig Field. Maryland then finishes up the month of September at Wake Forest on September 28. Maryland begins October with three of five at home, but start the month by closing out its two-game North Carolina swing at 2005 quarterfinalist North Carolina on October 1.
The Terps then host NCAA tourney semifinalist Florida State on October 5, Miami on October 8, and Duke on October 14. In between the Miami and Duke contests, Maryland will travel to NC State on October 11.
The ACC schedule concludes with two of three on the road as the Terrapins travel to Virginia Tech on October 20 and end the regular season at Boston College on October 27. Sandwiched between those two will be "Senior Day" at Ludwig Field on October 22 vs. Virginia.
The ACC Tournament will be held on November 1-5 in Cary, N.C., at the SAS Soccer Complex. The 2006 NCAA Tournament will begin on November 10 with the first three rounds being held at campus sites.
