May 8, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - NCAA Champion Maryland Terrapins continue to garner national recognition as Women's Basketball Magazine singles out Terp head coach Brenda Frese and sophomore Crystal Langhorne for their individual achievements. Frese is tabbed the publication's Coach of the Year, while Langhorne is picked among the top 10 best in the nation, garnering second team All-American honors. Women's Basketball Magazine is available now on newsstands where available.

In her fourth season at the helm, Frese led the Terrapins to their first-ever national championship in the program's first trip to the Final Four since 1989. Maryland won a school-record 34 games this season and earned a No. 1 final national ranking in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, the first time ever Maryland has garnered a final No. 1 rating.

This season under Frese, the Terps led the nation in rebounding margin (+11.9) and three-point shooting (40.0 percent), while also rating as the second-best scoring team in the country (83.3 ppg). Maryland also boasted a top-five field goal percentage (47.8 percent) and scoring margin (+18.3).

Frese came to College Park four seasons ago after she was tabbed the Associated Press' Coach of the Year. She immediately made an impact, leading Maryland to a winning record in her second season while also recruiting three top-10 classes, including two rated in the top five.

A member of the No. 2-recruiting class in the nation in 2004, Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) earns a spot on the second team after leading the nation in field goal percentage, converting on 67 percent of her attempts. An All-ACC first team selection, she was named the Albuquerque Regional's Most Outstanding Player. She was also selected to the Associated Press' and the USBWA All-American teams.

This season, Langhorne was third in the ACC in scoring (17.2 points per game) and second in rebounding (8.6 rebounds per game). After helping the Terps reach the title game of the ACC Tournament, she was also picked first team all-tournament for the second-straight year. Last year, Langhorne was the ACC's Rookie of the Year and became the highest-honored freshman in school history when she was selected second team all-conference.
