Postgame Quotes

Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen
On the players in tonight's game:
"It would be an understatement to say that this was a great win for our program and also for our season. I think all the credit needs to go to our players and their perseverance and their attitude. I'm indebted to them. I've had seasons when people with hangnails wouldn't play. These guys are playing with injuries that don't allow them to practice all week. I'm just very proud and very pleased for our kids because when you give so much for so long and you don't reap the rewards, it gets tougher and tougher. These kids never wavered. I knew last night that they were ready to play. They're unselfish and they give and they give and they give, and I'm just very grateful that they do that."

On quarterback Chris Turner:
"I told him that he wasn't doing some of the things he had done earlier. He hadn't played like this in the last game or so. I asked him if the pressure was getting to him. I said, `You've got the talent and I've seen you do it. You need to relax and you need to make decisions.' I think he made some good third down decisions tonight."

On tight end Jason Goode:
"Jason had to step up because with Cory Jackson hurt and Danny Oquendo hurt, I just didn't know how much I could count on Emani Lee-Odai. Jason and Chris both did a good job of making the reads."

On what he said to the players after the game:
"I told them that we're back in the bowl picture. I mean they're kids so they want to go out and celebrate and have a good time. I didn't want to throw cold water on that, but I said, `Enjoy this game tonight, but we have two really tough games on the road. We're 5-5 and there are a lot of teams in our boat. We have to go to two tough places and play two tough teams on the road.'"

Maryland Players
Senior Tight End Jason Goode

On the team's offense:
"I knew we had this in us from the beginning of the season. It was just a matter of time before I felt that we could keep on making plays."

On the team:
"We are a very close-knit family. We had this inside of us all along and we knew we could do it. People had to step up and had to make plays. It just came from within the team. During the week in practice we came together and we had to make our minds up with what we wanted to do. We realized that we still had a shot to go to a good bowl game this year. We had to get the determination to achieve that."

On the game:
"During the third quarter the way that we played and the energy we had we knew that we could do something big. Truth be told we felt that in the beginning of the game but once we started played and our energy started flowing we knew we really had it going."

Junior Linebacker Dave Philistin
On the team:
"Everyone was just giving it their all. A lot of us on the team are really good friends because we live together and develop a friendship. We are a family. In the locker room, there are pictures of us as a family, smiling."

On tonight's game:
"As big as this game was, there are still two big ones left on the road. We are looking forward to Florida State. It is definitely a good feeling to beat Boston College. There is another tombstone over there on that field. We had to act collected. We couldn't be crazy. There has to be some kind of collectiveness, but it was a Saturday night game on ABC. Who can't get up for that?"

Senior Running Back Lance Ball
On tonight's game:
"Our backs were definitely against the wall. We sat there and fought, and got the win. We played every down, every minute of the game. Guys were out there just fighting. We knew it was going to be a high scoring game so we had to go out there and score points. Guys came in there and put their hearts in it."

Sophomore Quarterback Chris Turner
On tonight's play:
"We executed the game plan tonight. As far as I could tell, that was the difference. We played a great game. We just got one more touchdown than them. We knew we needed to score points. We knew going in the game. We liked our matchups with Darrius (Heyward-Bey) and the other guys. We made plays and got points out of it in the end. It is a great feeling."

On Jason Goode:
"Jason was on a mission tonight. It was his senior night and he came up to me and said that he was going to be there for me tonight. Every time I looked, he was just open and it was easy enough just to dunk it off."

Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski
On today's game:
"I think Maryland played a good football game tonight. We were surprised with how effective they were with their running game. Our guys did not play well and I give credit to Ralph (Friedgen) and his staff."

On the team:
"We still have a chance to win the ACC championship. Tonight's loss does not change our focus. We are going to go out and compete for a championship."

On the rest of the season:
"It is disappointing anytime you lose a ball game but we still have everything in front of us. We lost two in a row and now we have to go out and fight next week against Clemson."

Boston College Players
Wide Receiver Brandon Robinson

On the loss:
"They out fought us. We didn't execute and they are not a team that is going to give up. It was senior day for them and they had a lot to play for, and they came and showed it."

On moving forward to win against Clemson:
"We still have Clemson; we still control our own destiny. We still have Clemson and Miami and we have to go back to the drawing board to get to work."

Linebacker Mark Herzlich
On the loss:
"I think the problem we had is that we didn't execute our assignments, and when we did-it was too late. We just couldn't execute the way we should have."

On not being able to stop Lance Ball:
"You can't point at one thing that happened; things happened all over the field. Guys missed assignments and Maryland capitalized more than any other team had before and I think that was one of the biggest problems."

Quarterback Matt Ryan
On the loss:
"It was a tough lost, Maryland did a great job tonight. They came out and did a great job, I think their offense did a great job and their defense did a great job as well. I give a lot of credit to them. We didn't do as well as we would have liked too, but we just have to get back to work tomorrow and make sure we play better next week."

On looking forward:
"We still have the chance to go to the ACC Championship game, and we know that its going to be a big game next week. But we just have to get together as a team and make sure we play better for next week."
