COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese
On her team's performance:
"Obviously the team had a ton of fun. I just told them [in the locker room] this is a really special team. They're just so much fun to be around. They care about each other and you can see that both on and off the floor. They care about each other's success and they want each other to do well. It was a fun game, and a great game for us to come out and have everyone contribute the way they did. I'm very excited for Emery to be able to get back into action and play the way she did for us tonight, because she's worked extremely hard in practice."
On Emery Wallace's performance after recovering from injury:
"It's all about persevering. Emery has had three knee surgeries and almost two years off from the game. Emery gets that kind of respect from her teammates because of what kind of teammate she is. It was very exciting for me."
Redshirt-Freshman Guard/Forward Emery Wallace
On her return to the court:
"It was awesome to have my teammates cheering me on like that. I finally felt like I was in the zone after a year and a half, so it was great to be in that zone again. It was great that my teammates just wanted to give me the ball and it just felt really good."
Junior Guard Kristi Toliver
On her emergence into a leadership role
"I remember how it was being a freshman and a sophomore and I had Shay [Doron]. I think these guys look at me like I looked up to her, and they know I have their backs. They [the freshmen] have a long way to go, but they're making strides and they're playing great."
Loyola Head Coach Joe Logan
Opening Statement:
"I think we got a lot out of this game, they are a tremendous team. In a week and a half they have beaten LSU, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma in the WNIT. It's a great experience for our team to come in here because we aren't going to get to see those types of athletes for the rest of the season in our league and the teams we play. Credit Maryland, they did a great job defensively on us and they are a tremendous team."
On the play of Kristi Toliver:
"Kristi Toliver is special, I was fortunate to be at St. Joe's when Jameer Nelson was there and she is that type of player. She makes everyone around her better, you have to guard her shot, she has a tremendous court sense, and she does a great job running the fast break."
Loyola sophomore guard Erica DiClemente
On how playing Maryland can benefit them later this season:
"It's a tough game at the time and you just play for pride. I think they teach us a lot about our team and individually they enable us to become better, so we can work on our goals of winning the MAAC."
