Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese
On today's game:
"They just noted to me that we broke the ACC record for most three-pointers in a game and I know this team likes to break a lot of records. I just thought that we were really unselfish in terms of our ball movement and being able to get the ball inside and being able to get nice kick out to our perimeter players. Obviously, they're ready to step up and knock down a lot of shots; that's what we've got to be able to do to be effective. I don't think we played a perfect 40-minute game, but I like where we're at and where we're moving forward."
On the starting conference play:
"After 17 games if you would have told us that we'd be 16-1, looking at that schedule, we would have definitely been excited about that. I feel like we're in a great place to move ahead and get ready for the best conference in the country, the ACC. We're excited about our first true test, going on the road to Wake Forest and being ready to come out and play an intense 40-minute game."
Maryland junior Kristi Toliver
On her shooting in today's game:
"We were just taking what their defense was going to give us. We just want to be in attack mode from start to finish; that's when we play our best and that's when we make things happen. I think we had a lot of fun just going up and down."
Maryland junior Marissa Coleman
On her performance in today's game:
"My teammates were just finding me in open spots and we just had great ball movement. I was given open areas and luckily I was knocking down my shots tonight."
UMBC Head Coach Phil Stern
On today's game:
"Obviously, Maryland is one of the top two or three teams in the country, so for us to come in here and not expect them to make shots and to not expect them to outrebound us is foolish. They're a great team and they're well-coached. Obviously, they have great shooters and we're primarily a zone team, so that doesn't really play in to our hands. We did some good things tonight and obviously Carlee Cassidy is a great player; she showed that last year as a freshman in the America East tournament to help us win the championship. We'll grow from today, but you've got to understand that there's four or five great teams in the country in women's basketball and Maryland is one of them."
On Maryland's 3-point shooting during the game:
"We've given up 17 three-pointers in a game this year and won, so we play a bunch of different zones and we try to control the tempo, but it's hard to do against a team of their caliber. We expected to give up threes but where we usually don't get hurt as much is in turnovers and transition points. That hurt us tonight, coupled with their offensive rebounding."
UMBC sophomore Carlee Cassidy
On today's game:
"Playing Maryland is kind of like a dream for me, especially an ACC team. It's not often that we get to play a team of their caliber. Coming in to a game like this, we just wanted to go hard and see what we could do against them."
