Maryland Men's Tennis Ends ACC Road Trip With 4-2 Loss to Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The No. 45-ranked Maryland men's tennis team was defeated earlier today by conference opponent Miami after a rain delay carried the match into the late evening. The No. 37 Hurricanes outlasted the Terrapins, 4-2.

Miami (8-7, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) has won four straight matches against ranked opponents, and they clinched today's match at No. 5 singles when J.C. Whitner downed Maryland's Trey Taylor, 6-4, 7-6(5).

Luigi D'Agord, ranked No. 26 nationally in singles, defeated Maryland's Nicolas Frayssinoux 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 1 position, and Josh Cohen overcame Andrew Orban 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3.

D'Agord and Cohen are ranked No. 12 nationally in doubles and defeated David Kwon and Boris Fetbroyt, 8-1 at the No. 1 position. Miami clinched the doubles point at the No. 2 position when Vivek Subramanian and Daniel Vallverdu defeated Orban and Taylor, 8-6.

With Miami on top 3-1, Fetbroyt pulled the Terps back in gear with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win over Subramanian.

Kwon's match versus Vallverdu at No. 2 singles was retired after the first set, and Louis-Xavier Lavallee's match against Hector Nieto at No. 6 was left unfinished after Lavallee was ahead, 6-2, 0-3.

Maryland (10-4, 2-3 ACC) will return to the Tennis Center at College Park at 3:00 p.m. Friday to face off against the No. 12 Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Deacons (14-1, 2-0 ACC) are on a nine-match winning streak.
