COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse team forced 18 first half turnovers and scored on 12 of its first 22 shots to defeat Stanford, 15-7, on March 28 at the Lacrosse & Field Hockey Complex. Junior Allie Buote was credited with 11 saves in the win, her third-straight game with over 10 stops.

Buote has saved 10 or more shots in three-straight contests before as she also did it back in 2006. Senior Krista Pellizzi led the Maryland offense with five goals and an assist. Her five goals matched her career high. Junior Dana Dobbie recorded three goals and an assist while classmate Lauren Cohen notched two scores and a helper. Junior Katie Princiotto was credited with three assists.

The Maryland defense forced a season-high 27 turnovers by the Cardinal with 11 of them caused by the Terps. Senior Becky Clipp led the Terrapins with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Senior Katie Doolittle and Dobbie also forced a pair of miscues. Stanford was just 14-for-27 on clear attempts, or 52 percent, which is a season-low for an opponent this season. Four of Stanford's seven goals came on free position opportunities.

Pellizzi jump started the Terrapins' offense as she scored three of the first four goals for the Terps and recorded a hat trick in just 12:26. Maryland opened the game with an 8-1 run overall. Kasper found Pellizzi for the first score of the game just 28 seconds in and then Pellizzi scored on her own two minutes later. After Cohen found Doolittle to make it 3-0, Jamie Nesbitt converted on a free position to cut the lead to 3-1 with 20:09 on the clock.

Maryland then rattled off five unanswered goals to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Princiotto found a cutting Pellizzi from behind the cage to start the run and then Princiotto helped junior Casey Magor score her first of two goals five minutes later to push the lead to 5-1 at the 12:45 mark. After Laura Shane saved Magor's first attempt at goal, Princiotto pushed the ball to Magor with three Stanford players around her and Magor put the ball in uncontested.

Dobbie then scored two of her goals consecutively and Cohen capped off the run with an unassisted tally with 8:43 to go in the first half. Lauren Schmidt then connected on another free position to make it 8-2, but Maryland scored four more before the halftime break to push the lead to 10. Doolittle capitalized on a late Stanford turnover and scored with no time left on the clock for Maryland's final first half goal.

Stanford came into the second half and scored the frame's first two goals as Nesbitt and Schmidt found the back of the net to cut the deficit to eight, 12-4. That is as close as the Cardinal would get as Maryland pushed its lead back to 10 with a pair of goals just 10 seconds apart at the 24:21 mark to make it 14-4.

The Cardinal (3-6) was led by Schmidt who notched three goals while Nesbitt added two. Laura Shane was solid in goal for Stanford as she saved 14 of the 36 shots she faced.

Maryland (9-1) is back in action on Tuesday, April 3 when it travels to nearby Georgetown to face the No. 7 Hoyas at 3:30 p.m.
