March 29, 2007
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - As the Maryland men's tennis team approaches the home stretch of the 2007 season, it will compete in two home matches this weekend against nationally-ranked conference opponents Wake Forest and North Carolina State.
The No. 51 Terrapins face Wake Forest at 3 p.m. Friday and NC State at noon Sunday. Both matches will take place at the Tennis Center at College Park.
Last week, Maryland (10-4, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) hit the road for three conference matches against Boston College, No. 29 Florida State, and No. 37 Miami. The Terps outlasted Boston College but lost to Florida State and Miami.
The Terrapins are lead by senior Scott Fink and freshman David Kwon. Fink has an 8-2 dual match record this season, while Kwon is 9-3.
On Wednesday, No. 7 Wake Forest (14-3, 2-2 ACC) came close to upsetting No. 6-ranked conference rival North Carolina, but the Tar Heels came out strong and defeated the Deacons, 4-2.
Wake Forest shows great depth with ranked competitors in both singles and doubles play. Senior Todd Paul is now ranked No. 7 with an overall singles record of 24-5. Paul is teamed with junior Mariusz Adamski in doubles, and the pair is ranked No. 74. Sophomore Cody Parr, now 23-5 on the spring season, is currently ranked No. 74.
No. 20-ranked North Carolina State (16-5, 1-3 ACC) fell to No. 21 Duke on Wednesday in Durham, N.C. The Wolfpack dropped the doubles point and came out with one win in singles play.
NC State is scheduled to visit Boston College at 6:00 p.m. Friday before traveling to College Park.
