After last Saturday's tough loss to nationally-ranked William & Mary, the Maryland Terrapins men's tennis team will look to rebound in two non-conference home matches this weekend against Delaware and Cornell.
Maryland's will face the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens (1-5, 0-1 Colonial Athletic Association) at noon Saturday at the Tennis Center at College Park. Delaware's last match was a 7-0 loss to George Washington.
At noon Sunday, the Terrapins will play the Cornell Big Red. Cornell is currently 6-1 this spring and will play at Georgetown Saturday before traveling to College Park. The Big Red defeated Colgate 6-1 on Tuesday.
The No. 56-ranked Terps (6-2, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) battled hard last weekend against William & Mary, but the Tribe came out victorious with a 4-2 win to improve to 8-6 for the spring season. Each of the Tribe's six losses were to nationally-ranked opponents.
Andrew Orban and Louis-Xavier Lavallee both posted wins for Maryland in singles competition versus William & Mary. Orban defeated Alex Cojanu 6-3, 7-6, (7-5) at No. 1 singles, and Lavallee won over Dominic Pagon 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5.
William & Mary clinched the match at No. 4 singles when Marwan Ramadan defeated Scott Fink, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. The Tribe's Colin O'Brien is ranked No. 79 nationally in singles play, as well as No. 6 in doubles with Cojanu. O'Brien defeated David Kwon 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) at the No. 2 position.
Maryland did win last Friday over George Washington. The Terps allowed George Washington only one win in singles play and swept them in doubles competition to post a decisive 6-1 triumph over the Colonials.
Admission is free to all home matches.
Maryland's match against UMBC has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 13, at 3:00 p.m. It was originally scheduled for Saturday.
