The Maryland competitive cheer team competes this Saturday at The Big Apple Classic in New York City, N.Y. The competition is going to be held at the Manhattan Center Studios and is sponsored by the National Cheerleaders Association.
This is the first year that Maryland will appear at this event. The coaches put this competition on the Terps' schedule, because it is approximately one month before nationals and sponsored by the same company as national championships.
"The team will face a similar judging style in the two competitions," explained head coach Jarnell Bonds. "We have downgraded our tumbling to comply with NCA's restriction on double fulls. Ashley Heiser will be competing her newly attained skill, a full-twisting basket toss. Jessica Janoskie has not been able to tumble due to an injury. Fortunately, she has recovered and will add to our routine with her tumbling."
