The No. 51-ranked Maryland men's tennis team lost to North Carolina State Sunday, when the No. 20-ranked Wolfpack (18-5, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) collected a 6-1 win over the Terps at the Tennis Center at College Park.
The Terrapins (10-6, 2-5 ACC) were led by sophomore Aaron Carr, who picked up Maryland's single point of the day with a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 victory over David Rozek at the No. 6 position. Carr's overall record in singles is now 10-6 with a dual record of 3-2.
Maryland also won at the No. 2 doubles position when Andrew Orban and Boris Fetbroyt downed Rozek and Christian Welte, 8-5, but the Wolfpack had already captured the doubles point at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Nick Cavaday and William Noblitt defeated Maryland's Nicolas Frayssinoux and Scott Fink 8-4 at No.1, while Jay Weinacker and Andrew Iriarte overcame David Kwon and Michael Coleman 8-2 at No. 3.
Cavaday and Frayssinoux faced off at No. 1 singles, but Cavaday came out with the victory, 6-2, 6-3. Noblitt picked up a win at No. 2 by defeating Orban 3-6, 6-0, 6-1, while Weinacker won at No. 3 over Kwon, 6-1, 6-2.
The Terrapins will take a tough trip down Tobacco Road this weekend for conference matches against No. 21 Duke and No. 6 North Carolina. Maryland will play the Blue Devils in Durham at 2:00 p.m. Saturday and head to Chapel Hill at noon Sunday.
