COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After spending last weekend in North Carolina, the No. 57 Maryland Terrapins men's tennis team will finish out the spring season at home at the Tennis Center at College Park this weekend for a final showdown against two nationally-ranked Atlantic Coast Conference opponents. The Terps will serve as host to the No. 52 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at 3:00 p.m. Friday and the No. 20 Clemson Tigers at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to all home matches is free.
Last weekend, Maryland fought a hard battle against No. 16-ranked Duke and No. 5-ranked North Carolina, but the Terps came up short when the Blue Devils won 7-0, and the Tar Heels prevailed 6-1.
Maryland (10-8, 2-7 ACC) has a 7-3 record at home this spring, losing only to visitors with national rankings.
The Terrapins are led by senior co-captain Scott Fink, who has an overall singles record of 15-10. Freshman David Kwon also leads the Terps with an overall singles record of 11-7.
The Terrapins' first task this weekend will be against Georgia Tech (5-14, 2-7 ACC). The Yellow Jackets fell to No. 11 Wake Forest last Saturday on their home court when the Demon Deacons won, 5-1.
Junior David North is ranked No. 29 nationally in singles for Georgia Tech.
On Sunday, Maryland will end the season in a match against Clemson, who has an overall record of 25-8 (3-5 ACC). The Tigers are 3-6 on the road this spring. Clemson most recently defeated South Carolina, 6-1.
Freshman Rok Bizjak leads Clemson with a 27-5 overall singles record. Bizjak is currently ranked No. 113 in singles. Senior Clement Reix is 20-13 overall in singles and is ranked No. 122 nationally. In doubles competition, Reix is paired with fellow senior Ryan Young and ranked No. 39 in the country.
On Friday, Clemson will travel to Massachusetts for matches against St. John's and Boston College. Before facing off against the Terps on Sunday, the Tigers will play at Georgetown at 8:00 a.m.
